This weekend for cheap Jan. 22, 23 & 24, 2010

Friday, January 22:
  • Free night at the Portland Art Museum: Admission is free from 5:00 pm to 8:00 pm.
  • Fertile Ground Festival: 10-day arts festival focused on new work in the Arts. Features up to 30 world premiere projects, staged readings and a myriad of other arts events from the Portland creative community. From fully staged world premieres in theatre, to ensemble and collaborative driven work, dance, comedy, visual art and film…

Saturday, January 23:

  • Guided nature walk: Join a park ranger for a free, guided nature hike to explore the forest and stream ecosystems and natural history at Tryon Creek State Natural Area. 10:00 am.
  • WACIPI Eleventh Annual Traditional Powwow: Drum groups and dancers from across the region will perform at this celebration of Native American culture and ancestry. PCC Sylvania, noon.
  • Portland Folk Festival: here is something for every music fan at this all-ages, free concert, sponsored by the folks behind the Portland Folk Festival (coming this summer). And while tonight’s lineup offers another economical chance to catch local vets like Au and Wow Flutter, the real reason to venture out into a cold, rainy winter’s night is Brooklyn’s Akron/Family. Holocene, 1001 SE Morrison St., 239-7639, holocene.org. 6:30 pm Saturday, Jan. 23. Free. All ages.
